About the Community
Seattle's geographic position on the Pacific Rim — facing the same ocean that separates Filipino Americans from the Philippines — gives the city's FilAm community a particular sense of Pacific identity. Washington State's Filipino community has deep roots in the agricultural labor movement (Filipino workers were essential to Washington's asparagus and hop harvests in the early 20th century) and has grown into a thriving suburban community across the south King County corridor from Federal Way to Renton and Bellevue.
