Our Commitment

FilipinoEventsNearMe.org is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people of all abilities. We believe everyone in the Filipino-American community — regardless of disability or assistive technology — should be able to discover, browse, and submit events on our platform without barriers.

WCAG AA Compliance

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities.

Accessibility is an ongoing effort. We regularly review and improve our pages and components against these standards.

Accessibility Features

Keyboard Navigation

All interactive elements — links, buttons, forms, and navigation menus — are fully operable via keyboard. We use logical tab order and visible focus indicators so keyboard-only users can navigate the entire site without a mouse.

Screen Reader Compatibility

Pages are built with semantic HTML and proper ARIA roles, labels, and landmarks. We test for compatibility with common screen readers including NVDA, JAWS, and VoiceOver. Meaningful page titles and descriptive link text help screen reader users understand and navigate content.

Skip to Main Content

A “Skip to main content” link is available at the top of every page for keyboard and screen reader users, allowing them to bypass repetitive navigation.

Alt Text on Images

All meaningful images include descriptive alternative text. Decorative images are marked with empty alt attributes (alt="") so screen readers skip them appropriately.

Color Contrast

Text and interactive elements meet or exceed the WCAG AA minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text. We do not rely on color alone to convey information.

Responsive Design

The site is fully responsive and functions at zoom levels up to 400% without loss of content or functionality, supporting users who rely on browser zoom.

Form Accessibility

All form inputs have associated visible labels. Error messages are descriptive and linked to the relevant field. Required fields are clearly indicated.

Known Limitations

While we strive for full WCAG AA compliance, some areas of the site are still being improved:

Some older event images sourced from external platforms may lack alt text
Third-party embedded content (maps, ticket widgets) may have their own accessibility limitations
PDF documents linked from the site may not be fully accessible

We are actively working to resolve these limitations in ongoing updates.

If you encounter an accessibility barrier on our site — a page that's difficult to navigate with a screen reader, a form that can't be completed by keyboard, or any other issue — please let us know. We take all accessibility feedback seriously and aim to respond within 5 business days.
